The Search for Australia’s Super, Super Mario Bros. Fan
We worked with Universal Pictures to promote Illumination’s (of Despicable Me fame) animated film adaptation of what is arguably the most iconic video game franchise, Super Mario Bros.
Universal were offering one lucky person the chance to fly to LA for the premiere, so we thought it would be thematically appropriate to gamify the conditions of entry.
I worked with our talented team of developers in building a bespoke website that would house this makeshift trivia mechanic, complete with a countdown timer and scoreboard. We also prepared hundreds of questions which were randomly generated each time you played.
Upon its completion we unleashed it on the masses and challenged them to prove their passion and knowledge for Super Mario. Participants had to correctly answer as many trivia questions as they could within a 45 second time limit.
We even got the voices behind Mario and Toad - Chris Pratt and Keegan-Michael Key, respectively - to announce the competition.
It was a huge success.
Throughout the duration of the campaign, we also assisted Universal in proliferating their promotional material such as trailers and additional ticket giveaways. We racked up record views and impressions across the entirety of the campaign and it was a huge boon for the IGN Australia brand.
